چکیده
The ENSO impact on winter precipitation in the Southeast United States was analyzed from perspective of daily weather types (WTs). We calculated dynamic contribution associated with change frequency WTs and thermodynamic due to changes spatial patterns environmental fields WTs. Six were obtained using a k-means clustering analysis 850 hPa winds reanalysis data November February 1948–2022. All can only persist for few days. most frequent type is WT1 (shallow trough Eastern U.S.), which or likely transfer WT4 (Mississippi River Valley ridge). becomes less El Niño years, while does not much. 2–6 correspond loop eastward propagating waves troughs ridges mid-latitude westerlies. Three deep U.S., are WT2 (east coast trough), WT3 (off east trough) WT6 (plains become more years. (WTs 2, 3 6) shallow (WT1) result above-normal coastal U.S. WT5 Carolina High), maximum extending Mississippi Great Lakes, corresponds below-normal Lakes Upper Ohio vice versa La Niña relative location dependent. On coast, two contributions similar magnitude.

[1] We find a consistent and statistically significant increase in the intensity of future extreme winter precipitation events over the western United States, as simulated by an ensemble of regional climate models (RCMs) driven by IPCCAR4 global climate models (GCMs). All eight simulations analyzed in this work consistently show an increase in the intensity of extreme winter precipitation with ...

We present a new event-scale catalog of stable isotopic measurements from 5 years of storm events at 4 sites in southern California, which is used to understand the storm to storm controls on the isotopic composition of precipitation and validate the event-scale performance of an isotope-enabled GCM simulation (IsoGSM) (Yoshimura et al. 2008). These analyses are motivated to improve the interpr...
